Retired Police officers from Taita Taveta County visited the Diaspora University Town (DUT). The officers were invited by the Diaspora University Trust Vice Chairman, Benjamin Mwandaa who is also a retired police officer having served in the police force from 1967 to 2003. He is also the former chairman of Ndara B Community (2006 – 2024). The goal of the visit was to show the retired police officers the 1,500-acre Diaspora University Town land so they could become founders of Diaspora University and be part of bringing Ksh 25 billion from the Kenya Mortgage Refinance Company (KMRC) through the 3,500 DUT townhouses development plan.

Mwandaa spoke of how the Ndara B Community welcomed the DUT project started by Diaspora Kenyans. He said that with the available finance from KMRC the project will create jobs as a university, hospital and other businesses are established in the town. He welcomed Dan Kamau the Diaspora University Trust Executive Trustee and DUT project developer to give an overview of the project to the police officers.
Dan was excited to welcome the retired police officers and thanked them for visiting DUT. He informed the officers that DUT is now positioned to bring Ksh 25 billion available from KMRC to Taita Taveta. He said each of the planned 3,500 townhouses will bring about Ksh 7 million and every person who becomes a DUT townhouse developer will create jobs and bring about Ksh 7 million of this finance for every townhouse they develop. He added that as per the KMRC financial statement of 30th June 2026, Ksh 16 billion is available for tapping at KCB and other banks that will issue the mortgages.

Referencing the manufactured materials on the DUT site, Dan said that Ndara B Community members are ready to produce them. The materials produced will be used to build the 3,500 townhouses, the university buildings, the MSMEs buildings as well as the roads, sewer, water and other infrastructure. Dan estimates that the community revenue from the Ksh 25 billion 3,500 townhouses budget, funded by KMRC, will be about Ksh 8 billion.

The police officers have an opportunity to become founders, either as a group or as individuals, by investing in at least one of the 3,500 DUT townhouses developed using a DUT Townhouse Investment and Development Agreement (THIDA).
Dan also invited the officers to consider kicking off a business at one of the 140 MSME plots. He said the Diaspora University founded will work closely to support the expansion and revenue growth of MSMEs started by the founders of Diaspora University.
Mwandaa further informed the retired police officers that he is extending invitations to police officers, teachers, other government employees, the business community and Kenyans. His fellow retired officers agreed to join him in passing the message..

By joining DUT as a townhouse developer one also plays a role in establishing the planned Level 5 hospital, which will create over 1,500 jobs as per approval checklist requirements. Some of the 3,500 townhouses will become homes for doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals taking up jobs at the hospital.

For every Kenyan family to achieve good housing over 20 million formal jobs need to be created and 7 million housing units developed in the next 10 years (by 2035), as Kenya's population grows to 65 million. The DUT system and its developers will create as many jobs as possible and develop as many houses as possible. For example a developer who sells a DUT townhouse unit and achieves Ksh 1.3 million will have the opportunity to build more housing units and grow their wealth using the DUT job creation and housing development system.
